Giving Opportunities

More than 19,000 adults in Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties read below a third grade level. When individuals learn to read, write, do basic math and use computers, they are more likely to lift themselves out of poverty, contribute to lower health care costs, and find and keep sustainable employment. Our mission is building literacy skills to empower adults and improve lives.

Craven Literacy Council is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Your tax-deductible gift purchases student and tutor materials, tutor training supplies, technology supplies, and tutoring space so that Craven Literacy Council can improve adult literacy by providing free, individualized instructional services to adults in Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties.

Other Ways You Can Help

Contributions

Give to one of our semi-annual appeals, or select the time and amount that works for you. Enjoy the satisfaction of supporting us throughout the year without the hassle of writing individual checks. A one-time, monthly or annual gift helps to keep us on track financially and supports the day-to-day work of our staff, trainers, tutors and volunteers. With your gift, you will play a vital role in helping us to eradicate the consequences of adult illiteracy. Click the Donate button at the top of this page, or mail a check to CLC, 2507-A Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC 28562.

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends is a select group of major donors pledging $1,000 or more annually. These individuals and organizations donate so that together we can stop the cycle of low literacy in our community. The significant financial commitments from Circle of Friends donors demonstrate how much they value literacy and support our vision that all individuals will have the skills to achieve their full potential. Please contact our Executive Director if you would like to join our Circle of Friends.

Event Sponsorships

Fundraising events provide financial support for us, serve to build awareness of our organization and bring recognition to the sponsors. We highlight our sponsors online, in print and through social media. Yearly events are the Daddy-Daughter Sweetheart Ball (February) and our Trivia Night and Silent Auction (June); as well as 2 mailings (Stay at Home Tea and Gift of Literacy). Click here for more information about the benefits available to event sponsors.

Honorary and Memorial Gifts

An honorary donation in the name of a relative, friend, or coworker may be the perfect gift to celebrate a birthday, holiday, anniversary, or special event. A memorial gift is a thoughtful way to honor a recently deceased friend or relative. With a minimum $25 donation, a beautiful card will be sent acknowledging your generosity and thoughtfulness.

To donate:
- Online: First, send an email to info@cravenliteracy.org with your name and address, as well as the name and address of the person you wish to honor. Be sure to include how you would like your name to appear on the card. Then click the Donate button at the top of this page.
- Mail: Your donation may also be mailed to CLC, 2507-A Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC 28562. Include your name and address, as well as the name and address of the person you wish to honor. Be sure to include how you would like your name to appear on the card.

Workplace Giving

Many companies match employee gifts to non-profits. This enables your donation to double or, at times, triple. Check with your company to see if they offer this program. Advocate for your professional staff to receive paid leave time to assist in Literacy Council programs. Also, consider replacing holiday gifts for co-workers, employees, customers, or clients with a donation in their honor.

Planned Giving

Help Craven Literacy Council plan for the future by setting up a bequest, trust or annuity or include us in your will or estate plan. Designate monies from life insurance or your private foundation to benefit CLC. You protect your current assets while providing needed funds for the future at CLC. For more information, please contact our Executive Director.
