Program Coordinator

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
25-30 hours per week, 50 weeks per year at $15-$19/hour
No benefits


REPORTS TO: Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Management of the Council’s literacy programs. Directs and supervises daily activities of assigned staff.  Manages tutor recruitment, training, consultation, continuing education and retention, as well as curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.  Of utmost importance are the following:
  1. Comfortable leading and speaking in front of adults for Tutor Training and In- Services.
  2. Relationship building with/between volunteers, tutors, staff, and students.
    Upbeat, a cheerleader and supportive.
  3. Knowledge of curriculum and how to use it, reading strategies, and quick fixes to support a learner’s needs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
PROGRAM/INSTRUCTIONAL – 65%
  • Ensure CLC’s tutoring program and tutor training program incorporates current developments, teaching techniques and industry standards for adult literacy
  • Direct/conduct Tutor Training Workshops
  • Direct continuing education program for current tutors to ensure ongoing professional development
  • Recruit, orient, match, motivate and support tutors and other instructional volunteers
  • Collaborate with Student Services Coordinator to match tutors with students
  • Support and supervise tutors to ensure that quality instruction, materials, and relevant test preparation materials are delivered to CLC’s learners
  • Assist tutors in creating lesson plans driven by student test results, goals, and basic education content standards
  • Evaluate CLC programs on an ongoing basis to ensure program quality and effectiveness, and implement changes in program design as appropriate
PROGRAM/ADMINISTRATIVE – 35%
  • Supervise the daily activities of assigned staff (bi-weekly programming meeting; plan, prioritize and assign tasks and projects; train and coach staff; monitor work, develop staff skills, and evaluate performance)
  • Work with Executive Director and Operations Manager to develop and maintain community partners to sustain grant compliance
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts to attract and retain volunteer tutors
  • Keep trainers and tutors informed about professional development opportunities
  • Manage required tutor files and tutor database (ensure complete documentation of demographic information and training) in association with the Program Assistant
  • Develop, prepare, schedule and advertise CLC’s tutor training workshops and in-service trainings, and measure their effectiveness
  • Provide grant input as needed by Executive Director
  • Participate in CLC meetings and other functions as appropriate
  • Communicate with the Operations Manager as to any database changes needed for tutors
  • Ensure website information is up to date as it relates to instructional services
  • Take part in Pro-Literacy, NCCCS, Echo and other relevant organization seminars and events as possible

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Two years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience teaching reading basics preferred
  • Completion of Craven Literacy Council’s Tutor Training Workshop and additional training as needed to become a Tutor Trainer
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, database experience)
  • Ability to set up and rearrange classrooms for effective instruction and special events (rearrange tables, carry books, computers, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently
